Aasiyah was one of a handful of matric students nominated for participation in a bursary competition for the IHS (International Hotel School). She achieved her nomination by winning a Roosevelt High School “cook-off”, and progressed to the boot camp stage, where she quickly learned that her passion for food was undiminished by the heat of the competitive kitchen.
After completing high school, Aasiyah achieved her Professional Culinary Arts (Level 2) Diploma at the HTA School of Culinary Art. She has since worked in a trainee capacity in a range of catering and hospitality environments, from the kitchens of high flying hotel brand Tsogo Sun to being part of the team feeding the crazy Top Gear South Africa crew.
Having explored the pressures and joys of the various worlds of the pastry chef, the assistant chef, the head chef, the sous chef, the private chef and the commis chef, Aasiyah has started to appear in her own right as a fresh new South African personality who offers the public a unique combination of food, personal style and creative flair.
Aasiyah’s first major solo appearance is at the Baking Theatre at the 2015 Durban Good Food & Wine Show. Working in partnership with Albany, Aasiyah is set to wow crowds with her fresh take on bread, baking and the sweet things of life.
